As Autumn approaches we’re getting ready for changes to our environment with beautiful golds, browns and the warm reds of the leaves on the trees. Whilst nature is changing so are the colours and styles we can look forward to seeing on the Highstreet.
So I thought I’d start with the colour brown, as many of you are probably aware, the Pantone colour of the year is Mocha Mousse. Now I’m sure you’ve noticed but the Highstreet is full of clothing in various shades of brown, from Mocha Mousse to that rich shade of Autumn/Winter loveliness. I don’t know about you, but it certainly it makes me think of cosy evenings in front of the fire, a red wine in hand whilst watching a binge worthy series on Netflix. Anyway, I digress, I’ve been searching the shops, online and in person to recommend my favourite finds. Below you will see me wearing the M&S brown peplum cardigan with their ever popular palazzo jeans. I was delighted to see that peplum styles were in for Autumn. This style of jeans are so flattering, cinching the waist with a gentle slope to the hips, an area many women are conscious of. I’d buy these jeans in every colour if they extended the range, the blue denim is ideal for wearing any time, the cream (which I purchased in spring) is limiting due to the colour – or is that just me, but gorgeous for any season! Predominantly, brown is a warm shade, so suited to people with a warm skin tone, particularly someone who’s colour season is an Autumn.

Another colour trend I’m delighted to see here for this beautiful season of Autumn is blue. Whilst the powder blues were seen in style and fashion for summer, the later seasons, which are fast approaching, will see deeper shades of blue. These deeper shades are far more impactful, being very flattering on many, especially people with blue eyes. Blue is a calming colour and one that when worn is helpful for you come across as a good communicator. It’s a colour that I always advise my clients to wear for job interviews and public speaking. It’s a colour is loved by most and gives you the air of being a good communicator, responsible, and trustworthy. Depending on the shade of blue, it suits warm and cool skin tones, there’s a shade for everyone. Blue I feel is also a perfect colour for a Monochromatic look, with so many shades to choose from, you can have fun styling them together as you can see below on Kate who is wearing who is wearing a shade very similar to the Pantone Fanfare.

Another colour I’m very excited to see trending for Autumn is bright red, marmite for some but loved by many. Personally I’m a huge fan of red, particularly the shade with more yellow in it’s base. This is a perfect shade for a Spring colour season, ideal for people who look and feel confident in this brighter shade, me being one of those people. The cooler shade of red carries a blueish base, perfect for someone who has a cool skin tone, which would be your Summer and Winter season. It’s a colour that provokes emotions in both the wearer and the person who’s seeing this bold colour. It’s known to raise the metabolism, increasing respiratory rate as well as blood pressure. It also attracts attention, so if you love to stand out in the crowd, it’s the colour for you. It’s a very powerful colour, hence why it’s used by businesses, individuals who want to make an impact and in many industries within their messaging and work environments.
